What Makes Joy Work in Our Lives?

Today I woke up wondering where all my joy had gone. I just felt blah, if you know what I mean. Have felt blah for a while, if truth be told (and it should be). So I asked myself, “Why do I . . .

It was still dark outside, which kind of matched my mood, so I got up and sat in my favorite chair and tried to clear the conscious thoughts out of my mind so I could identify what I was really feeling and why.

A scripture that I memorized some time ago came to my mind.

That’s why it’s important to memorize scripture.

If it’s imbedded into our memory it can come to the surface when we need it. As I mulled over the words, I could see what was going on. I wasn’t trusting God, and you can’t really have joy—real joy—without trusting God.

Joy doesn’t work with worry. Joy works with trust.

And trust is the opposite of worry.

Psalm 28:7 God is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts in Him and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.

My heart trusts in Him . . . so my heart rejoices.

A while back Rebecca and I wrote an article called 3 Things We Can Do to Bring the God-Joy back. They’re simple things, but they can help us to stir up that joy of the Lord in our hearts. And Rebecca made a great video about how to set re-joy reminders. You CAN have joy whenever you choose to have it. And that is just the truth. It’s making the choice and doing what it takes to get our mind off the joy-sucking things of life and into the presence of God who is our Strength and our Shield.

Psalm 16:11 . . . in your presence is fullness of joy.

Joy to the World! The Lord has Come! Rebecca and I pray great joy for you and your families this holiday season. Thank you for you for your faithful readership of our blog and our books. Please click on the post below for 3 tools to bring back your joy.
