Review for Dividing Sword by Katrina D. Hamel

I had never heard of Katrina Hamel when I stumbled across Dividing Sword. As I began to read, I said to myself, “This is one of the best Biblical fiction authors I’ve read.” I loved her style, and I loved the story. Her gift of word-painting planted me deep in the scenes.

The story is two pronged. The protagonist, Beth, is the apostle Peter’s wife. And she’s the cousin and childhood friend of Rueben, a Pharisee who is so entrenched in the letter of the Law he ends up doing something unthinkable. Beth’s journey of faith leads her to follow Jesus and her husband at great cost.

Dividing Sword is a story for our times. Serving Jesus costs something. The book is a little long, but whatever you do, don’t miss the ending.
