The Kind of Inventory We Shouldn’t Take in the New Year

Have you ever noticed how when someone you love does something or says something that hurts your feelings, your mind immediately goes to the last time they did or said that same thing?—and the time before that?—and the time before all the times they’ve done or said it? The new year is a time for…

Vision Is All About How We See Things. What Do You See For 2022?

There’s something about a new year that gives me new vision. It just makes me want to get busy. Right now! Today! It spurs expediency to finish that new book! Lose that extra weight! Start a little business! Work on some drawings! I wonder if that isn’t why God made the earth to revolve around…

Is There Really Such a Thing as “Our Own Truth?”

Ever been a witness in a trial? I have. Once. You used to put your hand on the Bible and swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I don’t know if that terminology is used universally anymore. I think it would be difficult now because “the truth” is not…

How to Keep From Expecting the Worst

Stop the Noise so I Can Think! The Importance of Imagination

I sometimes wonder if there’s a conspiracy against quiet in our culture. Sound is pumped into every space we inhabit. Can you think of a public space without some sort of a sound system at work? I didn’t think so. And when we don’t like what’s filling our shared space, we pump it directly into…

It’s Not All Or Nothing! Setting Small Goals

It’s Not All Or Nothing! Setting Small Goals

I’ve always been one of those “all or nothing” kind of people. I lost 135 lbs. in a year with very little struggle.
How did I do that? I got on a program and stuck to it like glue.
It really wasn’t that hard, once I’d made up my mind. The struggle began after I lost the weight. That was almost seven years ago, and I’ve wrestled every day to keep it off, sometimes unsuccessfully.
